Logistical Information for the Summit
Conference Registration and Housing at MBL:
Where: All check-in for rooms at Marine Biological Laboratory and registration for the conference will occur at the Marine Biological Laboratory (MBL) Swope Center. See #1 on map below. The address is 5 North Street, on the short connector between MBL and Bar Neck Road. The registration table will be located in the lobby as you enter the building.
Hours: Registration will be open on Thursday afternoon from 4 pm to 6:30 pm. Registration will re-open Friday morning at 7:30 am.
Late check-in: If you need to arrive after 9pm, the MBL night staff can be called for housing check in. You can check in for the conference the following morning.
If you are attending a Thursday afternoon field trip: Confirmations for field trip registrants will go out prior to the conference with meeting spot locations. For those staying in MBL Housing, if you have time, you can stop at the Swope Center to check into your room and get a parking pass between 12 pm – 1 pm. Or, you can head directly to your field trip and plan to check in beginning at 4 pm. For those staying not at MBL, you’re best option is to pay a street parking meter.
Parking in Woods Hole village:
Parking is very limited in Woods Hole Village and meters are checked diligently. Please follow the instructions below based on when you are arriving at the Summit:
If you have booked a room in the Swope Center, you will be provided a parking permit for the Bar Neck Road parking lot or the Stony Beach parking lot on Gosnold Road. You will need to come into Swope and pick up a parking pass either between 12 and 1 pm, or beginning at 4 pm. Your car can stay in either of these lots until Friday evening.
If you are not staying in Swope, you can park on the street. The meters are $1/hour with a 2 hour duration. Bring quarters and be prepared to feed the meter – you will get ticketed otherwise. They stop checking meters about 5pm. After 5pm, you may park in the MBL Green lots on MBL Street and Millfield Street without a permit but you may NOT park overnight in MBL lots or on the street.
Friday Conference Parking (7:30am – 5pm):
Because parking is extremely limited in the village, we have arranged special conference shuttles for conference participants.
Conference parking is at WHOI Quissett Campus, 360 Woods Hole Road. http://www.whoi.edu/directions/
Enter Quissett Campus and follow signs to the Clark Lab.
Shuttle schedule: A shuttle van will run continuously on Friday morning from 7:30-9am, from the front of Clark to the MBL Swope Center. If you arrive after 9am, you can take the regular WHOI campus shuttle departing Clark at 10, 30 and 50 minutes after the hour. It will drop you off down Water Street from the Summit site (near Coffee Obsession). After the Summit, a shuttle van will run from Swope to Clark from 4-5pm.
If you are leaving later than 5 pm, you can bring your car down from Quissett Campus or there are WHOI shuttle runs at 5:20 and 5:40pm, departing next to Coffee Obsession.
Wireless Internet Access
MBL offers wi-fi throughout the campus. The “MBL-GUEST” network is extremely easy to use and is very similar to systems that are widely deployed in hotels and Internet cafes.
Password is “mblguest”. Click here for network login instructions.
