The Consortium for Ocean Leadership manages a national academic competition for high schools on topics related to the study of the ocean — the National Ocean Sciences Bowl (NOSB®). The NOSB is a nationally recognized and highly acclaimed high school academic competition that provides a forum for talented students to test their knowledge of the marine sciences, including biology, chemistry, physics, and geology. The NOSB was created in 1998 in honor of the International Year of the Ocean and, since its inception, the competition has grown to include 25 regional competition locations with 300 schools and over 2,000 students participating annually.
Also, be aware and spread the word that the 2011 Living on the Ocean Planet Video Contest is open to ANY high school student who wishes to participate. They do not have to participate in the NOSB academic competition to submit a video for the video contest. Click on the link below to find everything you need to enter the contest, including the rules, rubric, entry form and flyers to help promote the contest to students.
The national winning team will receive pocket-size video cameras as well as a trip to the NOSB Finals Competition in Galveston, Texas from April 29-May 1, 2011. Winners will also have their video premiered on the Oceans Today Kiosk!
