Position Opening: Summer Ecology Camp Supervisor – Urgent Hire

Summer camp coordinator urgently needed.  Ecology Camp summer program in Cambridge at the Alewife Reservation at Alewife T Stop (with office and training nearby) needs a supervisory environmental staff member to run day-to-day operations.  Duties include coordinating environmental training, much of which will be provided by volunteer consultants, but which will also require environmental experience on the part of the coordinator.  The coordinator will also plan camp logistics and carry out daily preparations for the camp.

The camp will provide the youth involved with experiences in GPS monitoring, water quality testing, trail maintenance, wildlife identification and more, provided by scientists and teachers.  Approximately 15 youth are expected.  Youth will receive minimum wage.  The camp is run by Friends of Alewife Reservation, in collaboration with City agencies. Camp will run July 6th – August 14th, 3 days a week, for 20 hours a week.  Job commences as soon as possible for simple camp preparations for 10 hrs/wk at $8/hr until camp commences on July 6.  Salary during camp will be $15/hr, for 20 hours a week.

Required Background: Successful experience working with under-served youth and leading project-based activities.  Must have substantial past experience in leading and managing youth.  Environmental background is also essential.   Must have local experience and a car.

Additional Qualifications: Promptness and fitness.  Strong responsibility to youth and volunteer consultants.  The staff member should be comfortable in urban woods and should have the ability to provide safety for youth.
