MassBays is hiring!

EPA recently awarded funding to MassBays under the Exchange Network Grant Program to provide tools, training, and services to citizen groups conducting water quality monitoring in the Bays. The project will result in the following products:

1.    AquaQAPP, an online application facilitating preparation of Sampling and Analysis Plans/Quality Assurance Project Plans (QAPPs) for marine and freshwater water quality and benthic monitoring programs.

2.    Data management archiving for groups conducting monitoring, through EPA’s Water Quality eXchange (WQX) platform.

3.    Training workshops and one-on-one assistance to monitoring program coordinators for monitoring program design, scoping for volunteer training, utilization of AquaQAPP and WQX, and data analysis.

4.    A web-based reporting tool (EcoHealth Report Card) to present and interpret results of monitoring in the Bays for multiple audiences.

MassBays seeks applicants for the position of Dependent Contractor, a “Circuit Rider” to lead work on program component number 3 above, to be based in Boston but serve all of MassBays’ planning area. This person will provide outreach, training, and technical assistance to nonprofit organizations and their staff on components of quality-assured monitoring programs in near-shore areas. Topics may include: developing monitoring program objectives, selecting suitable sampling sites and water quality parameters, suitable training for volunteers, identifying certified laboratories for sample analysis, statistical data analysis, and data interpretation with reference to program objectives. The Circuit Rider will also organize and recruit attendees to regional training workshops for program coordinators focused on the online AquaQAPP application in October 2019, as well as a second set of workshops (March 2020) to introduce utilization of WQX.

Northeast Regional Ocean Council Hiring Ocean Planning Project Manager

The Northeast Regional Ocean Council (NROC—a federal-state partnership focused on ocean resource and management issues in New England) is hiring an Ocean Planning Project Manager. This position will play a critical support and coordinating role for NROC and the NROC Ocean Planning Director to implement the day-to-day aspects of the technical elements of NROC’s work plan. Job Opportunity: Teacher Services Assistant, New England Aquarium

The Programs Assistant is responsible for maintaining the logistical aspects, and supporting the Teacher Resource Center’s (TRC) programs and circulation library. The TRC programs include teacher workshops throughout the year, summer institutes, individual consultations, and large special events. The assistant will work as part of the TRC team to maintain accurate records of past and current participants, tracking program evaluations, and providing consultations for teachers. Occasional weekend day required for workshops. Must be available mid-June through mid-August for teacher institutes.

Job Opportunity: Program Educator, New England Aquarium

The Program Educator will join a team of up to 30 other Program Educators that work within the Education Department to present a variety of aquatic-themed educational programs in an outreach format, on-site in our Ocean Center, and in the Aquarium exhibits to children of various ages, the general public, and Aquarium members. Job Opportunity: Sea Grant Education Program Leader, Oregon

Oregon State University Sea Grant is recruiting for a 12-month, full time fixed-term Sea Grant Extension Education Program Leader. This position provides program leadership, development, and management of Oregon Sea Grants (OSG) marine education programs and visitor services at the Hatfield Marine Science Center (HMSC) Visitor Center in Newport, Oregon.  As an integrated element of OSG this position is responsible for the development and management of the HMSC Visitor Center, bookstore, visitor services, K-12 education leading learning development, public programming, and aquarium support.
 
Minimum qualifications include a Master’s degree in education and no less than 3 years leadership and management of informal science education programs, projects and facilities housing public exhibits. Demonstrated success in grant writing, resource and partnership development, supervising and motivating staff, building teams, and promoting and enhancing diversity. Salary commensurate to education and experience.
