The Whale Camp, in partnership with Immaculata University in PA, offers two 3-credit college courses this summer. “Introduction to the Ecology of the Bay of Fundy” (August 1-21) is an examination of this dynamic ecology, between Maine and Nova Scotia, driven by the highest tides in the world. This unique ecosystem is home to many rare whales, dolphins, porpoises, seals and puffins. The course includes whale observation with research components, a visit to a puffin colony, kayaking with seals, coastal ecology, exploration of stunningly beautiful Grand Manan Island and numerous trips aboard a 60-foot sailboat for research.
The second course “Authors & Artists of the Sea” (July 4-24) is for students who enjoy expressing themselves in through art and/or creative writing. It includes many of the elements of the Intro to Ecology course but focuses on students demonstrating their learning and experiences through their art and writing. Students collaborate in the production of a full-color hardbound book which is then given to them upon completion.
The Whale Camp also offers many 1, 2 and 3 week Marine Science, Oceanography and Whale Research programs for any students without college credit. All adventures are very hands-on, discovery oriented experiences.
